Not my cup of tea. A not so great mystery. It was pretty obvious who the bad guy was and where it was going. Even the title of the book gives away that a hidden staircase is the key to the mystery. This was my first Nancy Drew and will probably be my last.

Also, fun fact, there were drastically different versions of this book. I think I might’ve liked the original a little more.

As a kid, Nancy Drew was my hero. I was always reading one of Caroline Keene's books of teen adventure, and wanting to grow up to be like that. Now, however, as I go back and read them all again it almost makes me sad. Sure, they were written in another time and for a younger generation, but the book has no mystery to it. It is solved, not only by the title itself, but by the time you meet the first character. This is not to say it wasn't a good book. It was. It just wasn't as exciting as I remember.

I enjoyed this book. It kept my attention but it wasn’t that interesting. I don’t know if this was just me or if other people thought it too, but from the first few chapters I had already guessed both mystery’s were related. I also feel like they ended very abrupt. What I mean by this is the ending details ended in what seemed like a few pages. I did notice that on that on the last page of book it said what the third book is called. I wonder if it did the same thing in the 1st book? What’s a Bungalow?

I wish Goodreads would separate the Original Text Nancy Drews with the Revised Text versions, because I'm reading both books and they are distinctly different. I had never read the OT of this one, and was surprised to find Nancy packing heat! She's also described as having blonde CURLY hair, which I never really got from the pictures of the original books. This wasn't my favorite for the obvious reasons that it was dated and had racial stereotypes, but the story overall was very good.
