As a lover of reality TV, this book really made me look inwards and wonder, how does it alter reality when an unknown number of actions are curated by producers? How far should someone go to succeed in this world we’ve built? Described by my partner as a combination of “survivor” (but like the early seasons where they really tested how little they could give the contestants), “love island”, and “hunger games”, this book immediately sucked me in and would not let me go.

And I would watch the show in a heartbeat (maybe I already do, in a way)

Man, I really enjoyed reading this book. All the characters were kind of train wrecks of human beings and it was really hard for me to put the book down and go to sleep. I just kept needing to see what craziness they’d get up to next.

Love how this book played on the reality tv element, but imagined it an even bleaker future where climate change, war, and economic insecurity set the stakes of reality tv even higher

It felt like there was a lot of potential to be more but it never really got there. In the first part of the book, the pace felt very slow. The epigraph was pointless and gave no insight. It felt like in every chapter it was going to build up to something but in the end it was very anticlimactic. The main girl, Lily was very annoying to me. I would’ve loved to get more insight into other characters or just different perspectives, in general. I ended this book thinking what did I spend my time listening and reading for. Waste of time.

Started off really, was excited to get into a dark perspective on reality tv but it was lackluster and I expected a bit more drama or dare I say thrill. Maybe I’m crazy but after all the tense lead ups the plot always ended on a flat note.
