It a Greek myth about women in Greece. Expect tragedy. And divine punishment.

“Equal in strength”.

I enjoyed this more than I expected to if I’m honest. I’m a fan of Greek mythology, and re-tellings are such an interesting way to learn more, especially of stories less shared.

This started out quite slow, of course setting up the character and getting to know the protagonist well before she heads on her quest, and I struggled with this build-up even though I knew it was necessary for the story.

But when I started Part 2 I found it difficult to put down. The journey was so rich, the characters felt fleshed out, and I just needed to know more.

I audibly gasped at one point in a later part which is rare for me, and yet I am so thankful it was this book that made it happen.

Atalanta was a great book but there were parts where I was struggling to push through. I enjoyed the last two parts however, as I read through half of Part 3 and Part 4 entirely in 1 day.

I left this feeling just «meh» about it. It was ok, but at several times I had to push myself to continue reading as this was a buddy read and I really wanted to finish it.

Despite some pacing issues, this book provides Saint’s best heroine, with amazing world-building, amazing detail to the mythology explored within the text, and a happier ending than her other novels.

Without breaking your heart, Atalanta is a timely reminder of the cruelty of a world run by men. Any person who is feeling small and weak should spend time with Atalanta. The book will make you want to curse at the sky.
