I absolutely loved this book. I raced through it. Luckily I don't know much about greek mythology, so the ending was a surprise. In some ways I wish it had ended differently, but overall I really loved this retelling of the ancient myth ❤️

I love Greek mythology and really enjoyed reading this book! I love a badass woman although sometimes Atalanta seemed full of herself. I was a bit disappointed in the ending and how
she left her son

atalanta is my favorite greek hero, so my hopes for this book were very high. it was a solid 4 stars for me until the argonauts returned from their quest. after that, the book felt rushed and at times very predictable, while also lacking depth. it felt like the same effort wasn't given to the writing, honestly :/

I really liked the main character Atalanta, she was a strong woman without it feeling cliché or tropey. It felt adventurous and I didn’t know what was around each corner since I didn’t already know these Greek stories and myths.

I also liked that Atalanta faced sexism and misogyny but it didn’t feel helpless/hopeless and upsetting/infuriating the way that other books + movies can portray (often realistic) depictions. I appreciated that her driving force was a quest for glory to honour her goddess.

I wasn’t overly familiar with the story of Jason and his Argonauts, and had never heard of Atalanta before this book.

I loved every part of Atalanta’s story, from her beginnings in the forest with Artemis, to the way she took up her challenge without fear, and all the ways she proved herself time and again to be equal to or greater than the men she travelled with.

Her disappointment at the conclusion of the quest matched mine, and after the despair of what came afterwards I was sure there would only be a similarly sad ending to Atalanta’s story. I’m writing this review with tears still drying on my face from the final two lines of the book - an ending which for most would seem desolate but for Atalanta was perfect and rounded off her story just perfectly in my eyes.
