this took me forever to finish cuz i’m an inconsistent flop but i loved it so much!! crime and punishment was 85% torturous yapping and raskolnikov falling ill every 5 minutes and 15% actual plot, but it was worth it lol. raskolnikov is so mentally ill it’s so freaking funny like that man needs serious help and i hate that he’s my internal monologue lowkey (i have a raging crush on him).
also i can’t be the only one who shipped raskolnikov x razumikhin. like i wonder if they ever explored each other’s bodies. there truly is yaoi everywhere for those with eyes to see.
alsooo dostoevsky was right— my worst sin was, in fact, destroying and betraying myself for nothing. whatever. Love u fyodor. see you in the brothers karamazov SOON

I don’t even have words. My entire soul and heart belong to this book. I’m in shock, nothing has impacted me in the way this has.

One of the first thick classics that I completed in two months. The book was quite lengthy and Dostoyevsky went on rambling about the most random things and scenes at many places which had made the book a little difficult to continue. It needs a little determination and consistency in order to wrap your head around the drama, the characters and the Plot. The way story takes turn sometimes left me in complete shock and more often than not I have scribbled “WTF” along the spine because it was disgusting or disturbing sometimes. Dostoevsky cleverly uses many of the characteristics and references of Russia at that time such as the yellow tickets. Also the will to live and the fear of dying and the torment that Dostoevsky went through in his life clearly bleeds on Raskolnikov’s character. There were many places which made me and my buddy with whom I was reading made us wish that we can slap him right across the face and beat some sense into him.
Also one of the questions that Raskolnikov raised did stuck with me till the end, it was “Murdering someone is bad because society made it so, if we’d have normalised it, it won’t be that bad”. Other than that the book brings in religion and love in such simple way and not through force but with choice and not the all beautiful butterflies kind of love but stable, peaceful and reliable one.

excellent novel, beautiful translation. truly a CLASSIC.
This was my third attempt at this book and I've finally finished it and now, I think I need to re-read it.
This is a very dense book that I struggled to read. It felt full of monologues and so much talking dragging the pacing down. Despite that, I'm glad I read it. It explored some unique ideas and it's not something I'd normally read.
