Phenomenal book, a very honest look at how well-natured people and their good intentions can be lost on someone unwilling towards goodness. Created feelings in me I am unable to put into words. Not an enjoyable read, but a necessary one.

One of the few works from the Russian era of strong philosophical rabbit holes, that leaves you with a potential out?

I didn’t like Crime and Punishment as much as I thought I would, I’ll be honest. I don’t think Raskolnikov is as interesting a character as people make him out to be. I also would’ve liked to have read more about Sonya.

This was a very long read. From what I have heard though, that is how Russian Lit tends to be: very descriptive and long. But I can't say it wasn't worth the read.
From what I understood from the story, I learned the importance of openness and self expression between close ones. Rascolnikov failed to communicate his feelings and was constantly disgusted by other people's attempts to open up to him. Because of these characteristics, he kept to himself and committed a crime that he then regretted; a crime that torchered him. And he couldn't even ease himself of his torchers because he would not open up to anyone. In fact he got disgusted by others' attempts to reach out to him.
