A really beautiful tale with some heartbreaking news. I really connected with Sammie - my relationship with my mother was the same as described and that's heartwrenching. I loved learning a little more about those beautiful spiky creatures, hedgehogs.

Finding Love at Hedgehog Hollow - Jessica Redland

I'm consuming books by Jessica Redland at a scary rate at the moment and this one I really loved and it did also make me cry whilst listening to it on Audible and cooking the dinner.

Synopsis from Good Reads:

As Samantha Wishaw watches the love of her life marry another woman, she’s ready to give up hope of finding her happy ever after.

But when a chance encounter leads Sam to find friendship in Thomas - a lonely, grumpy elderly widower living at derelict Hedgehog Hollow - her life is about to change forever.

Glad to have a distraction from family feuds and match-making, Sam vows to fulfil Thomas and his wife, Gwendoline's, dreams of restoring Hedgehog Hollow to its former glory, and to open a hedgehog rescue centre.

Throwing herself into the task at hand, little does Sam realise that the keys to love and happiness may also be found at Hedgehog Hollow, when she least expects it...

Escape to Hedgehog Hollow this summer with top 10 bestseller Jessica Redland for the perfect uplifting, feel-good read."

This was very much a bit of a modern day fairy tale. I won't give too much away as it does all come together very nicely at the end of the book in a way that you might not have seen since you read Cinderella as a child. I picked this book to accompany me on a longish drive to Bempton Cliffs to see Puffins and then a friend in Scarborough and I have a lot of love for Redland's created world of "Whitsborough Bay" which is easy to picture when you have spent much time on Yorkshire's east coast. The narration by Emma Swan was different to the last couple of books I've listened to on audible and she did a good job, but I think I prefer Lucy Brownhill as a narrator.

The story had some elements that you could argue were predictable, but only perhaps as they were what I really wanted to happen! I loved the character of Samantha and is was interesting to see how complex the nature of friendships and relationships can be. I wasn't 100% sure of her relationship with her parents, but the dynamic was interesting and it did add a few interesting twists to the plot. There was a visit from Reece the gardener from the last Redland book that I read which was a fun crossover.

Most of all I did really enjoy learning about Hedgehogs and the fact that Samantha was doing her best to look after these small creatures whilst also keeping up a full time role. I definitely would love to end up in the situation she found herself in! I'm not sure I would describe this as a realistic depiction of romance and friendship, but I raced through it, it made me laugh and it made me cry so it gets 5 stars!

Love, love, loved it! I adore hedgehogs and this whole book is about a farm called Hedgehog Hollow. The main character Samantha is someone you really end up rooting for and I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book in pretty much one sitting.

If you like books about vets, animals or Lucy Daniel's Animal Ark series (children's version or adult version where Mandy Hope is now a vet) then you'll love this!

Now, onto the next one...!

The more I read, the more I fell in love with this book! There was family drama, love, heartbreak, heartache, hope and hedgehogs! I enjoy the style of writing Jessica Redland have. It's easygoing, straightforward but also captures so many aspects of life without being too complex. Usually when authors bring in to many things into a story, parts gets lost or forgotten... but not here! The whole book was so satisfyingly chronological that I never had to think about a paragraph twice.
I cannot even explain my feelings. I'm so used to dislike something with all the books I read but this one was really exceptional! Looking forward to read the rest of this series

Easy listen. Enjoyed the plot but felt one or two things were left unanswered.

I was going to give this book 4 stars, but I really, really loved it.

I wish the romance had had longer to develop, but that's okay! It had cute hedgehogs, a heartwarming story, and compelling characters. I can't wait to start book 2!
