I didn’t like the way it was written in terms of point of view. POV changed multiple times, and some chapters I didn’t even know who was talking because it wasn’t really clear so I would’ve liked each chapter to be named by the person talking so I could understand. The ’secret’ itself wasn’t really that great and I would’ve liked something a bit varied for each wife

I enjoyed this book especially the way chapters where structured to learn more about the past life of some characters. The more you go into the book the more you know the devil inside people. Lol I read it's going to be a Netflix Series, I can't wait. The story is great and I hoped the ending was more detailed regarding Bolanle.

I had the audio version. I found some part overplayed or too much compared to the situation. Maybe it's the ton in Nigeria, I'm french and from Gabon, but I did not enjoy some performance. Guess it's cultural but overall the story and audio was great. Thank you Lola!

I’ve had this book on my shelf for a few years and never finish it. I’m glad I ended off the year with this because it was so good, once I got into it I couldn’t put it down. This is Nollywood in a book

This book could alternately be called The Effects of Patriarchy: Nigerian Edition

This book mainly centres around four Nigerian women who did the best they could to survive a culture and system that were built without keeping their best interests in mind and continuously failed them. It's a book that paints the harsh reality of being a woman in Nigeria without using any buzzwords or hitting anyone over the head with the overall message.

It is a book that illustrates how the patriarchy is a stick that beats both men and women but does not hide the fact that the latter group is far more affected. It is a book that I wish the world in general could take lessons from. It is a book that will leave you thinking and will make you empathise with people you don't even know or like. It made me question my beliefs and thought processes.

Bolanle and Akin were by far my two favourite characters. For several reasons, I think they will both stay with me for a while.

It was the perfect book to end my 2023 reading year with.
