This romantic suspense followed survivors of a mass shooting. I was reeling after the opening scene of the shooting and crying 5% into this book. I guess, I dumbly didn’t think NR was going to walk us through it scene by scene. Knowing her writing, this was dumb on my part. I had mixed feelings about her using a mass shooting. On one hand, it is part of the reality of daily life in the US now so I understood her making a statement in this way. But to put it in a fiction novel - that ultimately is meant to entertain? It made me feel icky and just really upset. I just couldn't get past that even though most of the story follows the survivors as they try and live on after. The audio narrator was doing a great job.

This book was quite well-done.  The characters go through a lot, and the author makes you care about all of it.  The pacing was a bit slow for my liking, but there were many characters' stories to follow; they all tied together by the end.  I love Simone and Reed and their character arcs.  They both struggle but come out stronger.  While I would've liked to see a bit more intrigue, I appreciate how well the author captured the feelings and struggles of those who experience a traumatic event like a mass shooting.

Not usually a fan of 3rd person but loved the romance, description, swearing. I loved the way the writer handled post traumatic stress in one of the MC’s and dealt with her reactions and responses to the death of her friend and the situation in general. Shed a light on the very real issue of shootings in America. It was a good second visit into Adult fiction.
