Not sure how to explain this but the 1st half had me on the edge of my seat and the 2nd half left me disappointed

Would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read a good fantasy book. I read this book really fast, just because I was curious about what would happen hahaha!

5 stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My beef with Stephen King has always been that his books are a little too bleak and a little too male-gaze-y for me to enjoy them fully. That said, this is one of my favorites of his. I feel like as he ages his stories get more hopeful and less cynical, and this book is a testament to that. I had a really good time reading this, and if you’re like me and you LOVE a cursed city and a twist on the Chosen One trope, try this one out.

The dialogue is quality, use of classic stories is interesting, and the world building is great. However, the pace is too slow for me. I was bored. I considered not finishing.

Also, the love interest is strange and made me uncomfortable. Charlie looks at her once and falls in love? And she’s over twice his age? In fact, the other girls mentioned in the book that catch Charlie’s eye seem so unnecessary to his character development and plot line. I don’t understand why they were added in.

This book really didn’t need to be this long. The saving grace is Radar, the dog. I love the dog in the story.

I was hooked from the beginning. The blending of the two worlds was great. Was a great take on fairy tales and making them more real. I would definitely recommend this one.

This was a wonderful coming of age, fantasy adventure. It was a good frolic through another world with long awaited princes, curses, magic, and of course, monsters. It was tale as old as time, in a warm, comforting way. Like coming home to my fantasy roots.
