My first DNF of the year chile. I got halfway through the book and had to put it down. I wanted to like this book I really did but it dragged so much. I also didn't like that the author was also a character in the book. Like it doesn't work. Also idk if it's bc of the translation (this book was originally written in mandarin) but this book lacked paragraphs and that really bothered me

Stylistically and tone-wise, it's not for me. It might just be the translation, though I doubt the translator went the staccato-rhythm route on their own. Otherwise, this is a visually appealing book. The cover is fantastic, and the typeface they used made me read more than I normally would've. This is also the first book I've seen that pushed the novel to the absolute last page. Nice! Good job saving on blank pages!

A highly original story that creates a huge amount of suspense in ways you wouldn't expect. It's also full of subtle symbolism and societal critique that is easy to miss.
