 - What a great spin on enemies to lovers, where one character is not quite human! I love a book that digs into what makes one human, and CRIER'S WAR delivers.
- I also love a prickly heroine, which Ayla is (and then some). Following her struggle to square her beliefs with her reality was wonderful.
- There's also some excellent palace intrigue amid all the sapphic longing. This is really not one to be missed!

I mixed on this one. I liked Ayla and Crier as characters, but it might be TOO much of a slow burn romance. I found myself more interested in the political drama than in the romance. Will probably still read the sequel.

Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Slowburn, Sharing a Bed (squee!!), Flawed Villainy

Oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my  g o d

I cannot praise this book enough. The entire fantasy world is just so beautifully and intricately explored, it's so creative and unique I just loved every detail of. The characters are amazing too, you couldn't help but get attached to practically everyone when you were introduced to them, if only because of how the main characters cared for them. I loved how the story turned the classic "human's subjugate autos" trope and completely flipped it over it's head, it was such a refreshing take. Crier and Alya's lives (beyond the romance, although that was amazing too), just intertwine and connect in so many different ways, i's pretty beautiful. I'm reading the final book in the duopoly immediately. I'm so glad it's out.
