The last sentence of the last page BROKE MY SOUL. All the hope that we had as readers at the end of the first book is gone with this one. I appreciate that as a Nigerian immigrant Tomi is willing to do the research to portray a fictional representation of what the ancestors went through as the slave diaspora was made. Connecting the ties that have been broken in Black society for over one hundred years by racism, slavery, and prejudice. Showing the traditions of her homeland in Nigeria through the language and the elders while also allowing the main characters to have experiences that are very similar to what we as Black people experience in the diaspora.

But I sense the trigger warnings and trauma shakes coming with this third book as Zellie and Amari are bound by chains on a boat in the middle of the sea; very similar to the slave passage. If it's anything to what my ancestors went through there is a strong chance that Zellie and Amari might never see Orisha again.

It took me longer to finish this book. This book got really good at the end and I felt like the pace of everything was good. The storyline for these characters were really good and complex. I like the multiple pov and easy flow of who pov you are in.

The only reason this got a 4 and not a 5 is because I am deathly afraid of what the epilogue is foreshadowing. I was so irrationally angry at the end of this book lol. I just hope I’m wrong and this story isn’t going where I think it is.

Holy cliffhanger! I’m a little mad at myself for starting this series before it is ended. The last book she’s not even have a title, so it definitely has no release date. I enjoyed this second book as well. It drug on in a few places but had a lot of action also.
