It was great! Had so much fun and I think it was the perfect mix of plot, character, and romance!
Knocked off 1/2 a star cause oh how I wished we could've seen them courting before marriage!

I would have liked the heroine to be a little less virtuous. The trauma just kept sliding off her without affecting her character whatsoever. That took me out of the narrative a bit.

Reread 6/25/24
Just as good on reread! Honestly it’s fantastic, what am I saying. Duran had her work cut out for her with Alistair after how awful he was in the previous book. But she’s MFD, so of course this absolutely feral Duke had me wrapped around his finger by the end.
I may be a broken record at this point, but I will continue to argue that Duran writes some of the best intimate scenes. And it’s not because they’re the most spicy or detailed or frequent. (Though Alistair makes it HOT). It’s because they are so true to the characters, to the story, to their development as a couple. Their bodies are communing with one another and it’s emotional and raw and just stunning. The scenes make me both want to weep and fan myself at the same time.
There is a pond scene late in the book that is so beautiful, so raw, so perfect. Again, makes me want to weep with how beautifully written it is. Alistair and Olivia have so much trauma, but the way they SEE each other, and accept each other, and still find the broken bits to make the most gorgeous mosaic…well you can’t ask for anything better.

How utterly perfect!! The second book (after That Scandalous Summer) in the series and despite how good the first was, this is the better of the two! This was a heated book, full firstly of debate and dissent, missed connections, and so many lies. But secondly, it was full of heated glances and stolen touches, a brash man who thinks himself evil but just happens to be broken, and a intelligent but stubborn ass of a woman determined to make her own way, who hates the fact the she melts in his arms. *sigh*
Other things you’ll find:
Class difference
She’s capable!
They trade the gun back and forth with threats to use it
Common enemy, different reasons
She brings him back to life
He can’t scare her away
Highly recommend this one! I’ll for sure be reading more MD… Duke of Shadows is on my shelf!
