Fantastic introduction to the concept of coding for early elementary school students, and a fun summer story as well.
Excellent book that explains coding concepts in a concrete way for young coders!!

This is an awesome introduction to coding for kids, and even better, it is a Girls Who Code production! I love the diversity in this book, the funny moments, and the way coding terms are explained.
The story was a bit eh. Way too long and a bit confusing. There was definitely waaaay too much text though.
Bonus points for a POC female main though.

Phenomenal book to introduce children to the idea of coding without overwhelming them with actual code. They will still learn how to break down a task and basic coding vocabulary.
Another fabulous addition to our Josh Funk collection! He doesn’t disappoint!
I think this did a really good job at breaking down how to code for kids in words they can understand. I love that this featured a little girl of color doing all the coding, too.
I think it's great that they are making books about coding. I just wish it was not subtitled "for girls". Can't there be books for all children, like this one and not market it to girls? Books are for everyone and should have diverse characters. I am just a little tired of the pink aisle at the toystore and I don't hope to start a pink aisle at the bookstore.
Cute intro to coding--was recommended in a webinar I took about books on coding for children and teens. I'd like to learn how to code myself, so reading children's books on the subject is a great way to get an overview and clearer idea of what coding is.
Breaks down concepts in coding like breaking a task down into smaller sub-tasks, being specific, using the correct sequence of actions, loops, if-then-else, and how code can be built on top of to make even bigger things...all using a sandcastle as the metaphor! Also part of the #girlswhocode, and so features a female POC as the main character coding her robot to build a sandcastle. Also includes problem-solving. All in all an awesome book to introduce coding concepts to the younger age set. Will use for class visits!
