What an amazing thriller! I only wish I hadn't watched the TV series before reading the book. It's beautifully written to a level I haven't found in many thriller / mystery books. The twisty turns keep you guessing right to the end. Small town, tight community and secrets keep it stifflingly close. 100% recommend.

This book is absolutely disgusting, sickening, horrifying. Predictable at times, heavy-handed foreshadowing? Yes, absolutely. The last time I felt this disturbed and horrified was as a child, when showing each other graphic images of accidents or autopsies were all the rage.
I do not shy away from body horror, and at most it usually makes me smirk: early Chuck Palahniuk (think Haunted), American Psycho, Victorian Psycho, splatterpunk: all too far removed from reality to feel credible, visceral. This story though? I believed every bit.

About 20 to 30% way through the book I had figured out the killer. Easy right because I grew up on Agatha Christie. But it's in the last 1% that I discovered I was completely wrong. Bus this book rose from two stars to four stars.
The topic and writing was too heavy for me to want to continue. It’s the first time I’ve read a psychological/horror/mystery Yk? I thought I’d like it bc I liked Girl, Interrupted, a lot, but I didn’t really enjoy this at all.
