The retelling of the movie is pretty spot on and made me laugh aloud much like the movie does. The sequel was adorable and had some spookiness to it, just like the original. It was easy to read even though it’s over 500 pages long. Definitely recommend to resistant readers, middle to high school aged readers, and anyone who wants a nostalgia read that will take them back to 1993 with The Sanderson Sisters.

I had a very fun and nostalgic time with this especially with part one of this book. If you have seen the first movie, it reads just like it and as I was listening to the audiobook I was able to visualize each of the different scenes. There might have been a few differences, but it was very spot on with the movie. Part two, which is the sequel and new story, follows Poppy who is the daughter of the main character Max from the first story. We follow Poppy and her friends who have their own adventure with the Sanderson sisters which I enjoyed. It was great to be back with the sisters and to see them back in our world after it has changed yet again and we even learn some new things about their family. If you are a fan of the original story I would definitely recommend you check this out. Not sure if part two follows the new Hocus Pocus movie, but I can’t wait to see it!

Finished, just in time for Hocus Pocus 2 Day!! Yay!!

I love the movie, "Hocus Pocus". My family and I watch it together every Halloween, we have the board game, we have the stuffed Binx plushes that just came out . . . . So of course when I heard a sequel was coming out, and that a book version was being released, I just had to read it.
I read this in a combination of formats. I got a copy on my Kindle app and read it little by little when I was on the go, in doctors' waiting rooms, and so on. I also requested a copy of the hardcover edition from the local library, and relaxed with it at home in between.
The book picks up in Salem, years after Max and Dani and Alison defeated the wicked Sanderson sisters. And that's all I'm going to tell you. Because why spoil it for you? We have to wait a whole year before the movie sequel comes out. And I have to keep my mouth shut and not tell my family a THING about the great story I just read.
It's just as fun and quirky as the original. It has some surprising things in it that will make you smile with nostalgia and laugh at the irony. And it's Disney so it has some warm fuzzies along with the holiday-appropriate spooky vibes.

Not bad but to be honest I prefer the movie. I know right?! The movies are never as good as the books! The first movie (I haven’t seen the sequel) just seemed more fun. And I think because the movie came first and this book has been based from the movies that’s why it’s not as good. Maybe?…

This is a nice retelling of the first movie and a cute sequel. In all honesty I am glad I listened to this book before Hocus-Pocus 2 is dropped on Disney+ since I have a feeling I will prefer this story line as it includes all the old characters not just Bill and the Sanderson Sisters, but we'll see.
