Nothing can live up to the original Hocus Pocus, so it's fair to say I was extremely underwhelmed, I wasn't expecting much to be quite honest. You can deferentially tell this is a Disney book; every question has an odd yet straightforward answer. And a very basic unsurprising ending. Enjoyable sure, great nope. I would almost rate it as a middle grade than a young adult.

I know a lot of people did not enjoy the sequel part of this book but I have to say that I enjoyed it. It was entertaining. Seeing the characters from the first story all grown up and I really liked the new characters. My 2 problem with it was the way Mary broke out in a song, which to me didn't not work. It works in movies because you hear the music and the way it's suppose to be song but doing it for a book? Just not the same, it doesn't work. The other thing that bothered me a bit, well, it's hard for me to explain it. The way the book ended, it felt like there might be another story and to be honest, I would read it, lol.

It was a good story but it was really written for the next Hocus Pocus movie, which I can’t wait for!
Loved the first part which is the retelling of the Hocus Pocus movie. It’s exactly as I remember the movie with little bits of added information which is fun. The second part was just ok. Check this out if you are a fan of the movie and/or Halloween.

I loved reading this book . And I loved what story was about. And I loved the hocus pocus movie. I liked how they did a 2nd story of what happend after max and Alison got together. And there story when they are adults. I would reccomend this book to anyone who is fans of the hocus pocus movie. And people who want to know what happends next after the movie ends.
Honestly, I can't remember if this book was a 3.5 or a 4, but we'll give it a low 4 for now. Hocus Pocus has always been one of my favorite Halloween movies. My family tries to watch it every year on Halloween if we can. So obviously, I was very excited about this book, despite the very back and forth reviews I had heard.
Unfortunately, I feel like the mixed reviews were justified with this book. While the first book did provide a few more details that the movie didn't, it suffered from what all movie novelizations do: telling instead of showing. There was hardly any descriptive writing; it felt more like the author had taken the script and just transferred it into book form. I've never understood why movie novelizations suffer from this style of writing. It always makes it to where it cannot hold my attention as another book would.
As for the sequel, there were things that I liked, and things that I... didn't. The MC was very very foolish. Like, if my parents told me over and over again not to go to a place, I wouldn't go to that place, even if I wanted to impress the person I liked. She just proceeded to make multiple bad decisions throughout the story and it did get on my nerves a bit.
I did like how they ended it, though it could have ended without the open ending and I also would have been satisfied. I wouldn't be upset if they continued this story though!
