The beginning of this installment was like a breath of fresh air with it being focused on theft and robbery rather than murder. But it wouldn't be a Royal Spyness mystery without the murderous element. This book had me guessing until the very end. Loved the new characters that were introduced and it was nice to have a conflicting love interest to spice things up along with Darcy. I really liked this installment of the series.
Not one of Bowen’s finest. Too much xenophobia and privilege to be charming, and about double the length it needed to be. The mystery really only started the last third of 5r book, and to make matters worse there was virtually no Darcy. Really one in the series that you could skip and not miss anything.
Just fun. I love the way the author can bring history into this series.
adventurous
mysterious
medium-paced
This is the last book to date in the Royal Spyness series. It's another fun outing with Lady Georgiana Rannoch (Georgie), 34th in line to the British throne, set during the 1930s. In this book, Georgie travels to the French Riviera at the bequest of the queen. The queen wants Georgie to retrieve a valuable snuffbox that was stolen from her. While there, Georgie ends up staying in her flighty mother's villa (a gift from an old boyfriend) where it just so happens that Coco Chanel is also staying. Georgie ends up modeling in Chanel's fashion show and falls off the runway, then in the confusion a valuable diamond necklace is stolen. When a neighbor is found dead in his swimming pool, Georgie is arrested for the murder. Meanwhile she is romanced by an attractive French marquis. These books are very quick reads and I look forward to the next installment.
Perfect summer read. I love this series and this one has Coco Chanel!
not relevant to the plot but a gripe
Spoiler
I'm tired of Darcy. I think Georgie has proved she is a kind, smart, funny person - yes definitely TSTL but that is part of the charm in cozy mysteries, you know what you are in for. Anyway she deserves someone better than him since he constantly deserts her just to keep her in the dark. I wish she had better self esteem and met someone who is a bit less unpredictable.
Eh....just ok. The series is getting a little one note for me.
