The Other Half of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

It completed the epic story of how Cat and Bones got together and fell in love.

We met Cat and Bones in Halfway to the Grave, the first book in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series. In that book the story is told exclusively through Cat’s eyes. The Other Half of the Grave tells the same story, but from Bones’ perspective. We get important information about the vampire world and about Bones’ feelings right from the start, which are all more slowly revealed through the rest of the series, all from Cat’s point of view.

It was a treat to see how Bones experienced their initial meeting and how he saw Cat. Bones and Cat are each amazing in their own way, but together they are spectacular.

If you’re not familiar with the series, I would start with Halfway to the Grave and then read Bones’ perspective. Now I wish we could see some of the events from the rest of the series through Bones’ eyes as well. And that epilogue was the best.

I can recommend this entire series if you like paranormal romance with lots of steamy romance and head-strong characters. It’s best to read them in order. There are also some spin-off books, in case you want more.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I'm a big fan of the Night Huntress series, so I was super pumped to read the first book again but from Bones's POV this time. The Other Half of the Grave was such a great read, I loved being back in this world and revisit a favorite book from another perspective. This book can also be read as a standalone, which I think is awesome, if you've never read the series. Although I will say, you'll have to read the rest of the books from Cat's POV because this one does end on a little cliffhanger.

Now, I will say, I think the point of view from which you're reading a story is so impactful. I remember absolutely loving Halfway to the Grave and especially loving Cat, the heroine. I had a harder time with her while reading this one, and I think that's because I was reading from Bones's perspective, so I didn't have any insight into Cat's thoughts and feelings. She frustrated me so often and I wanted to shake some sense into her, even though I already knew what was going to happen.

However, I loved Bones just as much as I did when I read Halfway to the Grave. Being in his head didn't change that, it might even have made him even more lovable. I absolutely loved seeing him fall in love with Cat, dealing with his feelings, and seeing him be vulnerable.

I think Jeaniene Frost did such an amazing job writing this book, I mean, it can't be easy to rewrite the same book from a completely different perspective, and fifteen years later at that. I really liked how she updated the technology without it being weird and taking away from the original story.

I enjoyed this book so much, I immediately started rereading the second book in the series, finished it, and started the third book. I'll probably reread the entire series, and I think that says it all.

Thank you to the publisher for the advance review copy.

”Most people thought home was a place. Bones had lived long enough to know better. It was being with the people you belonged to, and Bones hadn’t belonged to anyone in centuries. Now, he belonged to her, and he’d nearly lost her tonight.”

man, i’m so happy to be back to the night huntress world again. this series was such a big part of my earls teens and this book was such an nostalgic read for me.
i loved that we got to see the first book, halfway into the grave, but from bones pov. i love bones so much and it was such a delight to read from his pov. seeing him falling in love with cat was so wholesome and i love how obsessive and protective he is towards cat. their love is iconic!!
can’t wait to read both feet in the grave, that’ll be coming out on april 18th next year!!

Loved this probably a teeny tiny bit more than the original - Cat's version. This is a series that I have loved for around 20 years and I'm glad that we are getting Bones' point of view. He's always been a fantastic character and I love his snarkiness and dedication to Cat

Just as great as I thought the original story was but with enough time since I read it that I forgot how it would conclude.

I have to say, I was extremely excited when I found out about this book. Bones’ side of the story? Yes, please!!! I jumped into this story without doing a re-read of the series because I didn’t want Cat’s voice in my head and I’m glad I didn’t.

I don’t think anyone who’s read this series will be surprised by Bones. He is who he is and he doesn’t apologize for it…that doesn’t change. What stood out to me was how quickly this master vampire fell for Cat. He hid a lot of how he was feeling from Cat and that was shocking (since I thought he was an open book from her perspective). While we thought their relationship was slow-building, that was really one-sided. Cat spent that time learning to not hate vampires while Bones tried not to let his true feelings for her leak all over their interactions. It was interesting and truly made me love Bones a little bit more than I did before.

I’m not sure if the author intends to retell the entire series from Bones’ perspective, but I really hope she does. His thoughts are fascinating and his inner monologue over Cat’s actions is fabulous. She frustrates him as much as entertains him, so getting that will be priceless.

I forgot how much I missed this series! It was like reading it for the first time. I wouldnt mind the whole series being written from Bone's POV.
