Another enjoyable installment! I’m liking how the two stories being told bounce back and forth between each other and ultimately kinda speak to each other and blend at the end. Still a fun read even knowing how it ends from the beginning. I think the best thing about this whole series is its overall candor, leaning into the awkward, the pedestrian, the silly, the corny, and letting these characters be relatable in their anxiety, doubt, and hunger for genuine connection.

Sejic’s Sunstone is not for you if kinky sex…or any sex makes you feel icky.

That said, his characters and their relationships have the feeling of reality. His art is light-handed and expressive. I enjoy his stories (and his wife, Linda Sejic’s) very much. The point isn’t really the nudity or the kink. The point is self-acceptance and the importance of honesty and trust. His themes are beautiful.

If you haven’t read Sunstone yet because it is “too” extreme or “too” kinky, Mercy has got your back. The book focuses on Alan and Anne and how they started their journeys. Self-discovery, heartbreak, and a lot of adventure—Mercy is a lot tamer than its predecessor, but it asks a few important questions. What is the difference between sexual and romantic attraction, and what does a successful relationship look like? In my opinion, Mercy is the perfect book for readers who are interested in the original series but are a bit hesitant due to its content. The artwork is superb and Sejic does a good job developing his characters. I think we will be seeing more books exploring sexuality in the future as more taboos are broken. Read Mercy if you are curious, read Sunstone if you are confident.
