This is one of those books you don’t know how to describe to anyone else. It’s unflinchingly gritty and awful, and consistently picks out the worst of every situation. It masterfully interweaves the lives of strangers and tells a story you can’t put down even as you’re revolted by it. In the end, it feels more like a journey than a destination. I loved it. I read it in two sittings and I can’t wait to see the movie.

Read for a month, then read the last 120 pages in 3 hours… Wouldn’t have read it if it was over 500 pages but now that it’s over, I wish it was.

This was an awesomely disturbing book at times. The character development was amazing, the plot enthralling, and the writing style refreshing. I finished this on my vacation to Dallas, spending more time finishing it on my first day there rather than exploring the city. Pollock had me that interested and concerned for the characters.
