“I wasn’t ready for work. I wasn’t ready for the world. I was hoping for a natural disaster, but it was a beautiful day. I forced myself out of bed and went to work.”

The strange formatting of the dialogue and the nondirectional meandering of the plot made this book difficult to get through, but these idiosyncrasies definitely added to the book’s surreal, hazy atmosphere. I really felt the absurdity, confusion, and futility of industrialism that the characters embodied.

I was intrigued by the animal plotline but wish it would’ve been fleshed out a bit more, although I can appreciate why certain plotpoints were left unexplained. The reveal that Furufue had been working at The Factory for fifteen years was really hard-hitting and almost eerie, especially since it was brought up so casually and the subject was dropped as if this fact was as inconsequential as the rest of the characters’ lives.

I'm sure the point of this book is supposed to be more than, "work is strange and meaningless," but that's the gist of what I got from it. The main characters are uninteresting and 1 dimensional. The plot is boring. The most interesting stylistic choice was naming the main trio very similarly and not distinguishing their narratives; this made the surrealism of their workplace more concrete. Overall, this story gives a glimpse into the boring lives of people who work meaningless jobs.

This story was odd in a way I enjoyed. I was intrigued by these seemingly normal characters, dropped into a slightly strange setting. Everything about the factory, the people in it, and the wildlife was just a little off, enough to leave both the characters and the reader looking over their shoulder. I liked that the characters seemed to be as in the dark as I was about the factory and it's inner workings, and I was excited to find out more.

My intrigue felt a bit misplaced by the end of the book, which was probably a very clever writing tool, but it felt extremely unsatisfying! Would I read a sequel? Probably yes. But I'd be suspicious throughout.

Didn’t really understand it. The choice not to label the chapters when switching between characters annoyed me more than intrigued me. I hoped something more sinister would be revealed, but I guess the confusing monotony was the point.
