I wasn’t particularly interested in remote Alaska when I picked up this book, but the author is just so good at world creation that I was absolutely gripped and mesmerized.

This was another amazing Kristin Hannah novel. I think I am becoming a superfan.

The way that Hannah can share her knowledge of a particular region or time in history through her writing is so effortless. And the connection between her characters both within the novel and with you as a reader is something special.

Hannah is able to create a story that spans across years and she develops characters that can somehow portray all of the emotions of the human experience. Not only does she write about love and heartache, but also the effect of the tragic aftermath of a POW who served in Vietnam. Hannah always finds a way to include the harsh realities of life in a way that is meant to remind readers of the sometimes dark history of our world.
