I put off reading this book for the longest time, but this book had me hooked from the first chapter. The pacing was fast, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. Even when things felt off or uncomfortable, I still wanted to see what would happen next. That’s the kind of pull this story had.

The characters were messy, flawed, and at times hard to understand. Some of their decisions felt unrealistic or frustrating, but that chaos added to the suspense. There were moments that made me uncomfortable, especially with how certain relationships were portrayed, but I think that was intentional.

The plot had a few holes and not everything added up perfectly in the end, but the ride was wild. Some twists I saw coming, others completely threw me.

It’s not a perfect book, but it’s a gripping one. I breezed through it whilst in the hospital room, probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if I wasn't so bored during the long waits at my hospital appointment.

I went into The Teacher expecting a thriller, but it felt more like a grim soap opera episode than a suspenseful read. The plot centres around
child sexual abuse and manipulation
.

I kept reading in case there was a twist or payoff that shifted it into proper thriller territory, but it just stayed unsettling without much substance. Definitely disturbing, but not in a way that felt meaningful or well-executed.

This started off good, loved the mystery expected from the author. Then the first twist was very uncomfortable. But there has to be a happy ending right? Wrong. Epilogue final twist ruined the whole thing for me. 5 stars for “didn’t see that coming!” 1 star for the main underlying theme.

There was nothing redeemable about this book. The tropes were overblown and trite caricatures of themselves, somehow. The ‘plot twists’ were EASILY clockable to anyone with a semblance of media literacy skills. Additionally, there were MANY elements of this book that completely took me out of the book; namely, the teacher wanting to wear THREE-INCH heels to her HIGH SCHOOL MATH JOB. As a teacher myself, that is one of the most outlandish details that could’ve been used to communicate the detail about her shoe shopping addiction. Also, why did Kenzie have gym class AND cheerleading class?? Did cheerleading not count as her PE credit??

I did not like how much grooming and pedophilia was entangled in this story.
