There is a very big difference between a strong or flawed female character and a total bitch, Evie is the latter. Poor Duke for even trying.

Female main character was just insufferable for the first half. Really mean in a way that just made it unenjoyable to read, and the relationship growth feel unrealistic.

Also despite the setting it didn’t feel very festive.

It was a fun lighthearted book, set on a filmset in Germany. I really liked this story.

Laura Jane Williams is a must read, drop everything immediately author for me. I love her writing style and her characters, so when I saw she was bringing out a Christmas book, I was beside myself with glee.

Set in the glitz and glam world of Hollywood against a backdrop of German winter wonderland, the book encompasses three core romance tropes; fake dating, grumpy x sunshine and kind of enemies to lovers.

There was a lot going on with this book, from alcoholic and ill parents, to abusive and toxic relationships, alongside the growth of two people who feel broken and some fantastic friendships. LJW has such a knack for crafting the perfect side partners, and Magda and Daphne in this book are no exception.

I really liked and enjoyed this book, but I didn’t love it like I do her previous books (although Our Stop might be one of my top of all time, so it’s got a high benchmark). I think my main gripe was the fact I just couldn’t get on Evie’s side. I completely sympathised with her and what’s she’s been through to make her character the way she is, but some of her actions just made it really hard to root for her.

I would also say this is a book set in December, rather than a Christmas book.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon books for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

This wasn't my favourite Laura Jane Williams book but I still really enjoyed it!

Evie really annoyed me at the start of the book, I just found her really rude and judgmental but I grew to love her as she developed as a person throughout the story. Duke was likeable from the start!

While I liked Evie and Duke as a couple, I just found there was too many of the expected obstacles in a fake-dating romance.

I still find Laura's writing so addictive and flew through this book! Got me in a Christmassy mood too!

Bad cheesy and overwroughtly american (for a British writer). Full of random outdated slang. But was at least vaguely Christmassy.

I love an enemies to lovers story and in this novel they actually can’t stand each other (not the one sided secret pining we usually get in the trope). This novel had some realistically flawed characters that you root for throughout. I will read anything Laura Jane Williams writes.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for this eARC. All thoughts are my own.

It's barely August and I'm already reading Christmas romances. So what? You can't tell me that you don't think Christmas romances have something more, that sparks that makes everything more magical around this time. Well, I'm always down for a Christmas romance novel, so I was ready to dive in Just for December.

Evie is a writer who doesn't know her worth and is not too fond of men. Duke is a famous actor who has fallen into the rabbit hole that is Hollywood. So when the two of them met on the set of Evie's movie as Duke's is the lead male character, they can't avoid butting heads. They are the opposite of each other, and they can't seem to have a conversation with our arguing. Bur are they really so different? Spending a few weeks together around Christmas time in German villages, might make them open up to new feelings and maybe find love.

I thought this was a cute story, but it wasn't able to grab my interest as much as I had wished. I couldn't feel the attraction between the characters, and at times I thought both Evie and Duke were annoying. However, this book brings to light some heavy topics: one self worth and confidence being impacted by society's standards and abuse in the entertainment industry.
