I really liked the idea for this book-Sliding Doors is one of my favorite movies. But Joanna was just so unlikable that I ended up not caring what happened to her either way.

I loved Just Another Missing Person and Wrong Place Wrong Time by this author but everything else I've read is... Falling a bit flat. The characters are so unbelievably stupid, frustratingly so.
This one says they like to watch crime stuff on tv but seem so naively, ridiculously clueless aboit the most basic of things. Like the strip around a police interview room being an alarm that you absolutely do not touch. Or thinking nice people that do stupid things just get sent home without any consequences after breaking the law.
Another one seemed oblivious to what witness protection actually is/means and just acted like it was a forced holiday she would be going home from soon and just had to grin and bear it till it was oelver, except she didn't even do that, she repeatedly complained and out herself and her daughter in danger.
The stories and really good but these characters just don't make any sense, nor do their actions. It's a real turn off and if I hadn't already reserved the rest of the books by this author from my library I probably wouldn't bother with checking any more of them out. The two I enjoyed were her later books so maybe I just need to stick to more recent stories by the author.

This book is filled with unrelenting anxiousness and misery.

Loved !! She did it again! Give ma all the books by Gillian!
One night and two choices. Following the repercussions of each choice was a slog. Just a lot of bad stuff to get to resolution.
