This novella was interesting. I will definitely say for the most part I was kind of bored with this back and forth of her father just controlling her. And I get considering the time frame no one was going to fight her father on it but it just didn’t do anything for me as a reader. Not once did we really see her do all the things her father was forcing her to do in order to isolate her from others her age. Until near the end when they’re time of mourning was over did it get somewhat interesting. Mainly because we got more character interaction besides the people within her house.

Also side note I’ve seen a trend so far out of 3/4 books why is rape mentioned every damn time. Wether it’s attempted or in this case having actually happened. It’s a little unnerving and I can’t even use the excuse for it’s the time period anymore because it’s happened three times so far.

It is interesting to see Neferet's past and it gave useful insight to her complex character. I do not agree with the victim turned villain trope nor the rape-revenge trope. While I do believe her father should have paid for what he did I don't think a child should have been the one to deliver it.
