This deserves 4 1/2 stars for sure. I guess I was still very hyped about Claudia Grays other books (mainly the firebird series) that I expected it to be the same, which really is a irrational choice of thought, but I did. I don't want to say I was disappointed because it really was captivating. I love Claudia Grays world building skills, she makes things so very cristal clear in your mind, and that is just pure talent as a writer. So in the end it was a very emotional book and it was very captivating. For me it still didn't top firebird but it definitely left me with a good impression. Bravo Claudia Gray... You have donde it again

This was a really fun read! It took a little time for the plot to really start rolling but I enjoyed it very much and have already begun reading the sequel. I don't really think I have any complaints. It just didn't grip me as much as books that I consider 5 stars have gripped me. I will say it's refreshing to read such smart characters and they're actually emotionally intelligent. Like I could see the main characters being real people that I would even wanna be friends with. Good stuff! Like I said I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Noemi teams up with a mechanical man, Abel, to save her planet from the aggression of Earth by blowing up the gate between the two worlds. As they work together, their initial distrust and hatred of each other grows into some understanding of each other and questioning of their perspectives on their worlds.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF at 27%. Noemi drove me insane

I wish I had read a physical copy of this, rather than the eBook, as it took me a long time to finish. I think Claudia Gray is terrific and her imagination is impressive. I love the universe she has created here, a clever cautionary tale for where we might end up. The use of religion on Genesis was very interesting, and quite unique in the sci-fi I have read so far.

Noemi and Abel's journey - both emotional and literal - was a blast. The shift in mutual understanding, feelings and belief was subtle and slow burning and I was sceptical at first that I could invest in a mech lead but boy can I, Abel's sweet voyage of self discovery was something to cheer for.

I wish this had been a standalone, but with the stakes as high as they are by the time of the finale, I guess it would have been impossible to resolve such complexity in one story. Looking forward to my next jaunt to Genesis - hopefully with a real book this time!

Lots of fun, super sweet, and I loved the YA exploration of what it means to be human.

I really like the environment the author built, the planets, the weird scenarios but I really didn't vibe at all with the characters

I am. Obsessed. Wow I just can’t describe how much I love Abel and Noemi. My sweet angels. Noemi is such an incredible dynamic character. She’s so good and smart and loving and Abel is a sweet angel baby. I love the world created and the side characters are fun too. I need to read book two asap.
