Not gonna lie, at first, I did judge this book by its cover. I mean, look at it. And I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed it! Romance wasn't the main focus in the book and I want sure if I'd like that because I do love a good romance, but it turns out that it just makes the romantic part(s) even better because you feel like you've earned them. Does that make sense? I don't know anyway, this is the first book about space I've ever read and I wasn't sure if it would be my thing, but I love Star Wars so I gave it a go. I really liked it!! Bless Abel. Some parts were really funny and cringe in a good way, can't believe I have to wait so long for the second one. Can't wait!! ❤️
It was cute and an easy sci-fi read for someone who doesn't know anything. Nuff said.

The second half of the book definitely made up for the first part.
4.5 Stars, a Great sci-fi gem!! Follow a pilot/soldier and a freakin' miraculous android odd-couple as they race around the galaxy in an effort to save the other habitable worlds from the evil Earthlings (hell bent on ruining their planets too!) There's a lot going on here, and it's really well done and a total page turner as you race through the different worlds of "the Loop". The last 1/4 of the book keeps you on the edge of your seat, and I found the ending satisfying as heck! Plus it's open to continue on, but not in a shitty cliff-hanger way that is hateful and all the rage with authors who just want to sell series sets.
Fans of Star Wars, Firefly, Saga, Descender and other quality space opera will enjoy this one.

I've read Claudia Gray before, but this was an entirely different level of writing. It was funny, heartbreaking and full of wonder. The story follows a young girl who is fighting a war against AI. She befriends a mech called Abel and it is their journey to closing the gateway between her planet and the others.
I enjoyed reading Abel's thoughts more so than Noemi's - it was almost poetic or lyrical in substance. His thinking truly was in line with AI and it was an amazing character development. This was also true of Noemi.
While this book is filled with adventure, war, friendship and more, the fact that romance was thrown into the mix was also great. I had guessed from the start what would happen romantically but wasn't sure that actually would happen until the end. One of my favourite scenes was where Abel and Noemi watched Casablanca!
I also loved the main character, she was strong but doubted herself and it was great to watch her become more confident, to open her mind to new possibilities and then stand up for her beliefs to her superiors. I only hope the stigma surrounding Abel as a mech is cleared up if there's to be a second book, I want him to be able to stand there and say 'here I am' and for those who had previously sneered at a mech with a soul to gape and realise how wrong they were.
Beautiful writing, intricate characters and an entertaining, thought provoking novel. Can't wait for more.
