The first book I ever won on here, and I really enjoyed it. This was better wriiten than the first book, and both were good. I thought there was a nice balance with the suspense and action, and loved the glimpse into the world of airline travel and the Coast Guard. The end was a bit tidy, but that's just me.

What a ride!

From the very first chapter I knew this was going to be a good one! It read like a movie and I was instantly hooked. I literally could not put it down and when I did manage to take breaks, I couldn’t stop thinking about what would happen next! Near the end I actually HAD to take a break because I was so nervous about what was going to happen. It takes a lot for a book to hit me that hard, it literally NEVER happens! Each chapter was filled with gripping suspense and heart stopping dread. Sometimes it got a bit technical and I had a little trouble following along, but it wasn’t enough to deter me at all. The ending was bittersweet and I felt like it wrapped up nicely. Ruth’s decision was sad, but I definitely seen it coming and as they read her letter, it made a lot of sense. The only thing I found frustrating was that we never found out what it said in Will’s letter. I was sure there would be an epilogue about it, but never got one.

I highly recommend giving this one a read, and would love to read anything the author has or will have published in the future!

Thank you for this eARC that was generously provided by the publisher and author via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Outstanding. Super intense read from start to finish. The multiple POVs were spot on and while I know nothing about the technical aspects of planes, diving, etc., I believed. Hard to put this one down!

The premise of Drowning by T.J. Newman is undeniably gripping, but much like my experience with her previous work, the delivery fell short of my expectations. The concept—a plane crash in an ocean and a desperate fight for survival—sets the stage for a nail-biting thriller. However, the execution left me wanting more.

While the stakes are undeniably high, I found myself struggling to stay immersed. The pacing felt uneven, with stretches that lacked the action and suspense the synopsis promised. The main characters, unfortunately, came across as somewhat stereotypical, which made it harder to connect with them on an emotional level. For a story with such life-and-death stakes, I wanted to feel more invested in their fates.

That said, Drowning is still a solid "light" read. For fans of thrillers who enjoy high-concept plots and can overlook some narrative flaws, this book has its moments. Just beware: if you’re catching a flight anytime soon, you might find your thoughts wandering uncomfortably back to this story!
