Thank you so much Netgalley, Avid Reader Press & TJ Newman for the ARC of this book
When I say this book hooked me from the start - that is an understatement. I started this book at 11:30pm and had to PULL myself away from my kindle at 60% to sleep. I was so excited to finish it off today and I flew through it.
This was such a thrilling read with action, emotional punches and a super addictive plot. It was such a refreshing thriller that reads like a movie you can binge in one sitting.
TJ Newman has gained a new fan from this book and I can't wait to spread the word!

If you liked Falling you'll love this one. I know I did!
Drowning is a story about a plane that crashed into the sea. It's about the desperate efforts of the people trying to save the people trapped in the aircraft hundreds of metres below the sea. But it's also about how a random assortment of people are able to survive, to be resilient and brave.
It was filled with high-stakes and action-packed scenes, there was no stopping the relentless pace of the story. But it was also filled with emotional moments, beautiful examples of human connection during tough and life-threatening times.
I struggled to connect with the characters in Falling but felt myself there next to everyone in Drowning. The way these characters were written, the ways they interacted with each other and just everything was perfect. I loved how we got perspectives from so many different people and were able to really see into each character.
There's just something about a story about a random assortment of people stuck together in a life-threatening situation who bond but also experience the deaths of some people in that group that just makes me so absorbed and emotional. Plus, they wrote letters. Then read the letters. That's when I actually started crying.
In regards to the thriller aspect of this book, it definitely did not disappoint. There were so many twists and turns that kept me on my toes. So many split-second decisions that had me biting my nails and franticly reading the next sentence. It literally felt like I was watching a movie, I mean I finished this book in 2 hours and 10 minutes which is the average movie length, just saying.
But anyway, you should definitely go pick this book up now!

No but what the actual fuck was this book.
This book ripped me apart. It was intense, gripping and full of suspense while also being so emotional and I cried too many times while reading a book i started thinking it will be a scary thriller…
Wow.

Wow.
This book had me TENSE from page one in a totally masterful and engrossing way. It never let up. I felt like I was on the plane and like I couldn’t wait to get out of this situation. I read this faster than I’ve read something in a long time. If you don’t like flying, maybe, uhhhh …. sit this one out. I was glad I don’t have any flights scheduled right now.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I love and hate Newman's books, but I think the love inches ahead. Formulaic, but I love the formula. Well-researched and factual, gripping, but also pretty predictable. Like riding a roller coaster you've ridden a bunch of times.
I'll be right there when her next one hits the library, though.

This was an epic story, and I finished it in a day! I haven't done that with a non-audio-book in a while, so it was a refreshing change!
I just couldn't put it down!
When the plane crash happened within the first few pages, I was hesitant. Drowning isn't a super long book (just under 300 pages in the copy I have) and I was still worried that most of it would end up being filler content for the sake of it. But it really wasn't!
From the very first page, I just didn't want to put the book down, and even a few days later, I keep thinking of this book! I loved TJ Newman's inclusion of family dynamics into a stressful situation, and it was such a realistic portrayal of parent-child relationships.
I also loved the rescue mission. Everything felt believable. The end was kind of predictable, (slight) but even without that, it was a brilliant story to follow!
It was great to see the variety of people left on board the plane - some older people, some children, some parents, some flight staff. It was great, and TJ Newman was able to make each person's reactions feel super believable.
I loved this book, and it's safe to say it's likely to end up on my list of favourites for the year!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advance copy of the ebook! I've already ordered myself a physical copy for my collection!

in that early on you know which plan is going to be successful,Spoiler
I knew, very early on, that Chris' plan was the one that would end up working, but each hurdle she had to jump over just made her plans even more risky and with a higher chance of failure. It was great to see the variety of people left on board the plane - some older people, some children, some parents, some flight staff.
