I listened to the audiobook (43 mins). Once I was done with the story, I actually listened to it a second time, to try to pick up on some of the things that went over my head the first time. It's a tense read, the first time through. It was a creepy and foreboding read the second time. This could've easily been a Twilight Zone episode.

As one other reviewer said, the MC takes a journey from apathy to autonomy. As the clarity of her situation increases, with it comes a growing sense of apprehension and anxiety.

I liked the twist at the end. It's never too late to take the reins of your life and make active, good decisions.

I wish it was a little longer.

I feel like I’ve read this one before. Nonetheless, Plath is an exquisite creator of tension of the unknown. Reading as Mary involuntarily takes this train ride, there’s a feeling of hopelessness that surrounds her and the reader as no one will tell her anytime. The parallels of life and the train ring true to myself or those around me who struggle in grasping to take control of their own lives.

A small, insubstantial book even by pocket-size standards, but quite interesting as a creepy allegory and a perfectly decent read to keep the reader company in the dentist's waiting room.

quick read but i don’t really understand what the point is. the front cover was more interesting.

a wondrous gasp of air in a dreamlike portrait of plath, i wish i could have helped her

I loved the creepiness of the train and the people on it. I felt like I was on a train leading to hell, and the “blind” people on the train were those unable to see that the path they had chosen in life was one of darkness. To me, Mary was heading to hell, but opened her eyes at the right moment and was able to change her path before it was too late. Who was the lady waiting for her and what did she represent? I felt like she was God and and had been waiting for Mary to change.
