My first read from Sylvia and it was honestly kind of exhilarating for such a short story. I feel like I shouldn't need to express the message on escapism and liberation from a societal norm. I liked it.

This is such a strange and fascinating little story. It's really short, but it sticks with you—mostly because of how symbolic and mysterious it is. It's weird, haunting, and kind of mesmerizing.
There's a dreamy, almost eerie vibe to it, and the symbolism is so layered—strange in a good way. Even though it's not super direct, it definitely feels like it's saying something important about control, choice, and pushing back against what's expected.

Sylvia Plath's ability to create such a vivid, unsettling world in just a few pages is kind of amazing. The writing is beautiful in that classic Plath way: dark, emotional, and thought-provoking. It really gets under your skin.

Sylvia Plath for beginners. I thought it was an interesting enough short story, but it wasn't super strong in terms of form or message, as compared to the writing Plath grows up to produce. Good for teenagers interested in getting into literary fiction.
