Good story! Reminded me a lot of the Joe Ledger books, which began about the same year I believe.

Having read Prime first, I was not sure this was a good series for me to start on. I'm not a military fan, and the prequel was heavily in that direction. Now that the team has moved to its independent status, I'm much more in line with the stories. I think this is a series I'm going to keep with and hopefully enjoy.

Here is another example of a well-written novel that suffers somewhat from unbelievable events, questionable science, and overly graphic violence. What was otherwise a very good read with good pacing, intrigue and action, simply did not live up to its potential as a result of those deficiencies.

The fact that I enjoy this genre as evidenced by my appreciation of James Rollins' novels is what attracted me to this author. While Rollins' novels can also be violent and fantastical at times, the fact is that they are extremely well researched by what is obviously a brilliant man. Rollins' science is not as extreme, and is based more on fact than fiction. The issue with Mr. Robinson is that he has a tendency toward actions in his novels that are simply way too hard to accept as even remotely possible, so in effect, they do nothing but detract from the storyline.

As I stated in my review of Callsign: Queen, Mr. Robinson definitely has potential, and I am hoping that this will be realized in his next novels in his Chess Team Adventure series. Even so, I actually would have given this novel 3 & 1/2 stars if Goodreads allowed it (this would certainly allow a finer accuracy to their ratings).

I have already started the next book in the series (Instinct), and I am hopeful that it will attain that 4 star level - check back in a couple weeks to see.

This is my first Jeremy Robinson novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A mixture of James Rollins and Tom Clancy. The strange and mysterious versus the clandestine and military operative. If you like an ongoing adventure mixed with history and military ops, then this book is for you.

I have been on my regular diet of cozies, UF and other paranormal, some suspense and wanted to change things up with a good thriller. And didn't I just with this one. Holey SCHMOKES!
Go along for the crazy wild ride with Jack 'King' Sigler and his special ops Chess Team as they try to intercept biogenetic engineers led by a ruthless amoral billionaire who is trying to find the path to immortality.
I figured I'd have to suspend belief, but when a well written story slams like this I can believe in mythic beasts.
Definitely going to read more adventures of the Chess Team!

I can handle books that take existing science to ludicrous levels, but this book even got the basics of DNA totally wrong. For a book that focuses on genetics, that is a deal breaker.
