way more than expected

Wow! I read a lot of horror and not much shocks me. There were some twists, turns and moments here. Just wow. Would love to see some side stories from this book expanded upon. Or the next generation maybe?

Boh indie brawl runner up list
In the beginning of this book, the author called this old style horror and compared it to Stephen King. I almost put the book down. Nothing against King and that style, it's just not my preference usually. I'd have to be in a certain mood. I gave it a shot because I'm wearing out my KU with the Boh indie brawl lists. I'm glad I didn't put the book down. I enjoyed the haunted setting of an underground mansion and an eclectic cast of murderers!!!

This is my first story from this arthur and wow what a fantastic book. I had been looking for a scary, creepy story to read and this book had it in spades. From page 1 to the end this book had me hooked from the start. I'm so glad I was given the chance to read this book. This is definitely one that you'll want to one click.

A paranormal investigator TV-show crew visits a haunted house, and meets ghosts who are not done with their stories or, soon, the investigators. Genuinely scary, weird, gross, sexy, and loads of fun. I look forward to more from Claven!

“Welcome to another episode of Haunted Houses. I’m Alex and I’ll be co-hosting this episode with the lovely Jade as we get to explore one of our most infamous locations yet.” Alex paused for dramatic effect before saying, “The Jackson Mansion.”

A mansion built underground, if that isn't creepy enough, imagine it filled with malevolent ghosts. Scary, perverted, disturbing ghosts! All once human, but have inherited a family curse. And they are ever watchful, lurking in the shadows, waiting to enslave their next soul.

Alex and his crew enter to disprove that ghosts exist, during their excursion, Alex tells the history of each of the Jackson family members, set during different time periods. Everyone of them sadistic and gruesome.

What the crew encounters is ......."Once you come in, you can never leave."

I read this in a few hours, I was so engrossed by this chilling story! An excellent ghost story with a bang of an ending! Loved it!

This review primarily covers the audiobook version.

This book starts up with the author talking it up something fierce. Two thoughts crossed my mind. Either this is going to be the best damn horror book I’ve listened to in a while. Or I’m going to have a field day tearing it apart.

As much as I love to shit all over things people hold dear; Bravo. This story is something else. It really did live up to the hype. It’s one of the best short stories/horror stories I’ve listened to/read.

The characters use words like “smelt it” (smelled it) and torch (flashlight). This led to much confusion on my part. The inconsistency of the narrator confused the hell out of me. The narrator would occasionally do a European accent. If he can do a European accent, then why doesn’t he narrate the book in that accent. If he can’t, then why wasn’t a European narrator chosen?

Adding to my annoyance with the narrator, he says “19o2”. O isn’t a number. It’s 1902. Adding to my overall annoyance, the audiobook is plagued with this obnoxious background music.

Maybe it’s time I get to that praise I hinted at, at the start of this review. This story is twisty, twisted, and exciting. It continually keeps you engrossed with stories and history of the mansion and the family that owns it, followed by the predicament the characters are in after an untimely cave-in.

There were a couple of character names “Andrew Jackson” and Michael Jackson” which I found amusing. I don’t know if those were intentional or just a coincidence, but my personal stance is; If it’s amusing, it’s canon.

The story made me wonder. Some of the best stories I’ve listened to since I started reviewing have been short stories. 3 of them have been horror. Tempting Fate, Santa of the Dead, and this one. Are they good because they don’t stick around long enough to lose their thunder or is it something else. I really can’t praise this story enough. It’s brilliant.

One of the best horror books I ever read!

It's so... scary & graphic & the story stays in your head forever. SO GOOD! It's the perfect book to read right in time for Halloween. :)

Group of reporters are going to explore an underground mansion, that supposed to be haunted. Local legends talk about the ghosts, and the curse of the owners and they are on the emission to film and research an essentially overthrow all the rumors. Well, it didn't go as planned. :)

When they get in, they start to explore right away. The mansion is enormous, with countless rooms and secrets. In between the leased tells stories of the horrible thing that happens with each generation living here. But they get in real trouble when stories of the start to come alive.

It's so well written, stories perfectly intertwining, leaving you on the edge of the seat. It filled with twists and turns and the ending ... it's so fitting. The book tells the story of a very disturbed family line and how they came to be. I wished there were like 5 more books. :)
