The pace and the emotional stakes pick up strongly in book two.

I still wish that there would be more focus on other civil rights leaders, but they are there, and there are some poignant, small side-stories that are well worth reading.

Still tearing up on all the Obama bits.

in this story, i learned a lot of behind the scenes history that i had never learned or been taught in my history classes. in that sense, this is education made accessible. there's firsthand account and impactful lines that help to provide the realities of these people.

my singular compliant is that this, in comparison to book one, seemed more jumbled. there were many times that i had a hard time following the progression of the story. perhaps this was just me. it made it confusing for me, even if i did enjoy the general story.
