Absolutely riveting.
The scenes from the March on Washington had me in tears.

Wow. You don't realize all that was done to make our country a more equal place just a few decades ago. Such bravery. And makes you see how much work and sacrifice is needed to make good change. Which we need now for sure.

Wow. The "story" gained speed with the first book, but this second one is where it really starts getting brutal. This was really hard reading at times, due to the casually heinous acts of violence perpetrated by neighbors and the state on people just wanting equal opportunity and rights. Hard to read, but harder to live through- reading it and bearing witness is the very least we can do.
Fascinating! I think I finally figured out how I like history - powerful stories in comic books.
this gets a full five stars because i teared up twice while reading. this is a great continuation and expansion upon the first book. hearing john lewis' own memories about these really important and historic events that i learned about in school again was such an interesting peer into someone else's experience. i just really adore this graphic novel trilogy and think its an ingenious way to teach anyone -- but specifically younger kids -- about history by reading through images. i also want to mention (since i didn't in the previous review) that i love the art style of these books, and i am eagerly awaiting the next chance i have to sit down and finish the trilogy.
White people are awful and John Lewis spoke at the March on Washington. The more you know.
