Much like [b:March: Book One|17346698|March Book One (March, #1)|John Robert Lewis|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1360539808s/17346698.jpg|24086771], a powerful story told with very striking art. Really heartbreaking moments, like when Lewis observes that of everyone who spoke at the march on Washington, he's the only one still alive, and it really digs into the complexities of the different voices in the civil rights movement, which tend to get glossed over in most MLK-centric histories. Really compelling, recommended for teens and adults alike.
The second part of the March trilogy. As an adult, I am amazed at how much I am learning from these. So much I don't recall learning about when in school. These books are a great way to help students learn about the Civil Rights movement. John Lewis's words and experiences are inspiring.
Not a fun read, but a necessary one. In some ways we've made progress toward racial equality, but the words of John Lewis's speech resonate with our situation today as well.

The terrific graphic novel biography trilogy continues in this volume, covering John Lewis' life story in the Civil Rights movement during 1960-1963. He gets involved in the Freedom Rides, and narrowly misses being on the bus that is firebombed, one of many lucky escapes in his life. These books are a fairly quick read but full of so many important historical events and people that they demand a re-read to get it all. I love the illustrations as well.
