The ending??? WHAT?!?!

Overall, this was an intriguing story. The timeline was a little unclear so the ending kind of felt like it came out of nowhere. The recipes were an interesting element though. It read like a telenovela with some magical realism and I found it to be entertaining, just not anything too captivating.

They had sex and caught fire and fucking died???
Also the pacing was so strange like  the way they announced characters deaths was just?? Like it was soo hard to tell what was going on  I thought it had been a year then BOOM its been two decades, Rosaura deflated to death and the toddlers have grown up and are getting married?

I like magical realism but this one felt like it was trying a little too hard… there were still enjoyable aspects though.

Shorter, less compelling version of "House of the Spirits". Great for a plane ride, and I do want to try some of the recipes, but not my favorite experience with magical realism (especially compared to my current love, "One Hundred Years of Solitude").

I love the simplicity of the magical realism in this novel. I also love the monthly recipe setup. When I read this novel in college, two people in my class followed one of the recipes and created matches, which was pretty cool.

Me gustó mucho.
