This book was an absolute mind-fuck, I loved it. I don't know how much to say in the review without giving away too much so I'll just say I loved the philosophical meanings behind the text and the writing style. Le Guin has been on my radar for a while based on quotes of hers I've seen passed around, and while I figured I would like her work this book really impressed me.

The description of sleep, the cycles of the brain, drugs and their effects, the waves and how they look on an EEG are all very technical. This book it true science fiction in that it shows the author actually had knowledge of science and makes you feel like it is all very real. I miss that in a lot of science fiction. Nowadays science fiction can be so removed from it's original premise that it's just fantasy but in space. So, this book was really refreshing, best sci-fi I have read in a long time.
