Girl, Stop Apologizing: A Shame-Free Plan for Embracing and Achieving Your Goals by Rachel Hollis

This is the second of Rachel Hollis self-development and leadership books, but the last of the three that I read. It was also my least favorite. The book deals with "embracing and achieving your goals, " and has some of good ideas and tips, but there were definitely parts of the book where the author (reading the audiobook I listened to) comes across as preachy and condescending. This book was written at the height of Rachel Hollis popularity as a motivational speaker and media influencer. I understand that she and her company have since fallen on hard times. Still, there is much that is good in the book, especially for a woman who wants to do more with her life, but feels like she just isn't enough. I think that all of this author's books were good and I enjoyed listening to/reading them, but this was the least good of the group.

I felt the same way about this one that I do about most self help books. They all feel like they’re saying the same things, and they don’t necessarily make me feel any better about myself. This was my introduction to Rachel Hollis, and I can’t decide if she’s too over the top or if her life is as perfect now as she makes it sound.

Rachel Hollis gives a lot of great advice in this book about going after your goals. As with her other book Girl, Wash Your Face, I occasionally find her words trite, assuming, and a little too rah-rah. But she makes some great points, tells some good stories, and I felt that this book was better than the first.

There were parts I glazed over but enough good nuggets and exercises that I read until the end.

Hollis doesn’t disappoint! She brings her blunt and shame free advice to millions of women that desperately need to hear that they are made for more and that they shouldn’t apologize for being themselves. I received an advanced readers copy of this book.

I absolutely love listening to Rachel Hollis on audiobook! I've read both this one and Girl, Wash Your Face, and for some reason I enjoyed this one a bit more and more quotes resonated with me, but I can't pinpoint too many specific distinctions besides the fact that my life looks significantly different from when I read the other one. This goes to show how drastically different interpretations of books can be depending on who's reading it and where they're at in that particular point of their lives. I admire Rachel Hollis so incredibly much, and I know she'll be an author I'll remember and continually look up to throughout my personal growth.

There is some good actionable advice in here. There is also some serious garbage I hope no one listens to.
I nodded and said ok and I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
It has some good pieces but also some really problematic advice and extremely privileged rants that could be hurtful to so many people.
I also suspect the good bits aren’t wholly hers. Though I was happy to see her at least listing her sources in the book.
I am looking for help defining and achieving my goals. This was not it but I suspect something like that exists. Off to find it.

It’s ok
The book wasn’t what I expected. I feel it was largely redundant throughout the entire thing. The messages are good and there’s a good balance of inspiration and tangible steps to reach your dream/full potential. I just felt it could’ve been summarized in an article versus drawn out in a book.

I’m livro motivacional como tantos outros. Como “li” em audiobook enquanto ia fazendo as lides domésticas foi uma boa companhia mas acredito que se tivesse lido em formato físico me teria aborrecido em algumas partes.
