First of all, my free Kindle version was riddled with annoying typos. Lesson learned. But despite the annoying typos, I found Siddhartha to be a decent read. While I am far from an expert on Hinduism and Buddhism, it gave me some insight into the philosophies/cultures. Definitely reads more like a critique on the belief systems. Some parts pulled me in to the plot, but I found myself wanting more detail and time spent on the plot. It felt a bit rushed and time flashed forward far too fast.

Immense wisdom in this book. Not my favorite to actually read all the way through, but the last two chapters were just full of life in a way that’s hard to describe. Great book

Having just reread the book, it’s interesting that my thoughts on it haven’t really changed. I still interpret it the same way, with just as much fond reverence (if not more).

An another way to live life. Doing a meditative task, not as a job but as a enjoying endeavor. Siddhartha didn't reached such state just like that. He had undergone various realizations and his own corresponding introspections to learn that there is nothing more for life to offer than to enjoy the river which he rows across. In our 'busy' lives we all go do 'busy' stuff in name of happiness through material possessions and in name of pride. In reality we would forget what happiness really meant and by time we will be swallowed by regret and sorrows. Herman Hesse tried to seek us another path to leading a meaningful lives. The character arc of Siddhartha can be clearly showcased while comparing him with characters in the story with distinctive personalities contrary to Siddhartha. I enjoyed going with his journey. A life which is also possible...

I read this translation in college. I really appreciated its contemplative nature. It was a different kind of book for me, and it still means a lot to me decades later.
