This was a DNF for me. Disappointing for sure, because the premise is so interesting and I feel like I could have got so absorbed in this world. But I didn't. made it through 56 pages before I bailed. At least it's finally off my TBR now.

Really enjoyed the majority of this story, but felt the end was a bit muddled: https://blogendorff.com/2018/06/12/book-review-occupy-me/

I couldn't finish this. It's the kind of fantasy where mad things just keep happening with little preamble. Not my kind of thing. There are some interesting characters though so for the fantasy fans, or lovers of weird, should probably give it a go! (for context, I also hated Neverwhere - I'd put this in the same box of Deus ex Machina fantasy)

Gave it 189 pages and just couldn't be bothered with all the twists and turns. WTF even is going on?

Nuts. Absolutely, nuts. The most surreal sci-fi book I've ever read. So obscure, I can't even attempt to describe it. Reading this was like trying to watch 'The East' and several episodes of 'Sense8' at once. Whilst on acid. I enjoyed it, but I did feel a bit sick afterwards. Make of that what you will!

Clearly I read incorrectly. Or I've gotten seriously lazy. Not sure which. There are Ideas here, but I can't quite summarize them.

This book was...a wild ride.

It was definitely surreal and somehow had a crazy surreal fantasy world based heavily in quantum physics. And heavily featuring dinosaurs. Which is never a combination I thought would work, but it did.

I liked Pearl's character - I love that she was a muscular woman who was soft as pudding. There were some amazing poetic lines that really hit well in the book. Her growing into herself was exciting through the book, and her view of the world, and love of everyone really sat well in the book.

Despite my positive feelings, more clarity at moments have improved the book. It felt a little like reading a fever dream at points and following what exactly was happening was difficult and sometimes to the detriment of my enjoyment. I don't think overall it needed more clarity as the vagueness lends to the surreal vibe, but just in specific moments.

Particularly the ending. I think she MAY have been reincarnated as a young boy in the fridge from the start, but I think it was actually Kisi. With her first person discussion.

I also had to reread the chapter and go '....bird overlords? Oh, there are bird overlords'.

DNF after 100 pages. Life is too short to read books you don’t enjoy, and I was too confused too enjoy this one. No idea what was going on or where it was going, not intrigued enough to give it more than a 100 page shot, and didn’t really like the writing style either.
