Gogol makes me laugh ; Gogol makes me cry ; and his audacity is just delightful.

Alexander Pushkin suggested the plots of dead souls and the government inspector, apprecieting Nikolay Gogol's gifts for the grotesque. So right he was. These stories, champion the dismal, the deadbeat and the damned; all encumbered and consumed by governmental inefficiences and banal beauracracy. Highly funny and prophetic - his stories reek of modern creed.
