This was a great book. First book I read from John Katzenbach! Was super good.
4,5 ⭐️

The idea of the book caught my attention and I decided to read it. Holocaust, Nazis..let's read this.
We have the main character, Simon Winter, a retired homicide detective who feels his life is meaningless. When Simon is about to commit an act that is irreversible, he is interrupted by his neighbor Sophie Millstein, a Holocaust survivor, who believes she has seen "Der Schattenmann" (The Shadow), this character is a Jewish informer who collaborated with the Nazis. Of course, the last time Sophie saw "The Shadow" was in Berlin, in 1943, and only for a fraction of a second, is it possible that after so many years, that same man would appear in Sophie's apartment in Miami Beach?
I liked the book, but I would have liked it to focus more on the character of Simon, instead of the story between Walter (a homicide detective) and Esperanza (a prosecutor), I think the description of the love encounters between them could have been left out of the book. At times the prose is slow, and almost bordering on boredom. It is almost at the end where the rhythm rises again and the book become entertaining. Anyway, in my opinion it is not Katzenbach's best work.
