Man, I haven’t read comic strips like this since I was like 14. What a nostalgic feeling. The jokes are still cute and witty even with this character I wasn’t familiar with prior to randomly picking it from the library. I knew it was a popular series, but that’s about it.

Nate is a typical self-absorbed kid with a touch of ADHD. He has good friends who give him an equal amount of crap as he gives them. The females in his life also give him crap, so his selfishness is addressed, which is refreshing.

This Big Nate starts off with Nate making a series of New Year's resolutions... and then pretty much not reaching any of them.
This book has the introduction of Nate's arch-enemy, Artur. Artur is better at chess, he's a nicer person, and he starts dating Nate's biggest crush. We also get a discussion of "dibs" and many other fun stories.

These books are hilarious! I don't care how old you are, you'll laugh out loud at least once. I'm so glad my cousin has all these Big Nate books laying/lying (I don't even know!) around.

My students are obsessed with Big Nate. We can't keep the books on the shelves! I try to read some of what they're reading to understand the hype. I'll definitely read more--takes an hour or so and it was cute, especially if you have kids in your life.
