I'm grumpy with this book because I wasn't going to continue the series because I honestly think that the book could be about half as long--it dragged quite a bit with unnecessary detail. But thanks to a massive cliffhanger, I actually want to continue it.
slow-paced

I really wanted to like this book but I realised that I enjoyed more the academic setting than the actual two main characters and the uneventful plot. I appreciate it’s the first book of a trilogy but I would have hoped something more was going to happen in this first chapter of the story. I’ve found it truly boring more often than not.

Nice plot, world setting and historical accuracy. But the main character shifts dramatically from strong independent intelligent woman to a piece of whet cloth with no thoughts or agency of her own. Not sure why?
