weirdly captivating, even if it was a bit hard to follow at times (a combination of intentional writing choices and my own shortcomings probably)

interesting play on "who is the monster and who is the man".

thought that the book would conclude on a hopeful note, but i'm glad it was a more matter-of-fact ending

Strange in all the right ways. I loved meeting each new beast and slowly learning what parts of human nature they reflected back at readers. 

I will definitely be reading more from Yan Ge!
