Once in a while I like to take a leap of faith and read a book that I'm not entirely sure I will like. I mean, of course I was curious about this book and its story, I wouldn't have requested an arc on BookSirens if I wasn't at the very least intrigued, but I wasn't entirely sure if this was gonna be my thing. However, I would never know if this book would be my thing or not if I wouldn't start reading it. Which is what I did last Monday.

I needed a little time to really start enjoying the book. At the beginning of the book I was a little unsure where the story was going and there were quite a few characters, all with names that sounded a little unfamiliar and were therefore hard to remember. But after a few days and quite a few chapters, and once the dragon appeared, I started to connect with the story, the heist and most of all the characters.

It's sometimes hard to understand if a character is truly morally gray, but in this case it's crystal clear that all the characters we're meeting are morally gray. They do bad things with good reasons and good things with bad reasons. In a way I started caring about them and even rooting for them, even though I knew that not everything they did was okay. And I loved that. I loved how complicated, real and most of all realistic these characters were, even though they weren't all human.

Because that's the other part of this book I really enjoyed: the world. It feels like we're only seeing a part of the world. We're spending all our time in one city watching how a group of people is trying to plan a heist and how another group of people is trying to prevent the group from succeeding. Through mentions and throwaway lines though we know there's this big world out there, with more species and creatures.

I will certainly check out the next book in the series when it releases!
